Be SMART: A Community Approach to Gun Safety and Student Well-Being

Enrichment - Adult / Thrives -
Adult Spring 2026

This session isn’t just for gun owners ... it’s for all parents and caregivers who want to help protect kids and teens in our community. Led by a District 196 parent and South Metro lead volunteer for the Be SMART campaign, this nonpartisan, non-legislative presentation offers practical tools for creating safer homes and conversations.

The Be SMART framework includes

  • Secure all guns in homes and vehicles
  • Model responsible behavior
  • Ask about unsecured guns in other homes
  • Recognize the role of guns in suicide
  • Tell others to Be SMART.

This session directly supports ISD 196’s commitment to student well-being, integrity and community partnership ... empowering families to take small, effective steps that save lives.
