Choir Fest
Choir Fest is a special opportunity for selected 8th graders. Selected by their middle school choir teachers, students take part in a choir learning experience culminating with a public concert. Approximately 35 select choir students from each of the six middle schools in District 196 will be participating in the event this year. The 17th annual Choir Fest will take place on Friday, February 7th at Eastview High School. Lunch and morning snacks will be provided, but please make sure you eat a proper breakfast. Rehearsals will continue until 3pm. A free public concert will begin at 3:30pm. Pre-Fest rehearsals: January 9th All Students –5:30-7:30pm January 30th Sopranos/Altos – 5:30-7:30pm •Tenors/Basses – 6:30-8:30pm (Choir Fest rehearsals are held at Falcon Ridge Middle School – please enter at the lower level.) Participants will receive a packet of music, as well as web-based rehearsal tracks and a T-shirt. The registration fee covers the entire day of costs for food, music, accompanist, tuning, t-shirt, rehearsal tracks and materials. Some students may not be able to afford the fee to participate. Group Guitar Lessons (ages 9-15)
Learn how to read music, TABs (musical notations indicating where to put fingers on guitar), and discover the chords and scales it takes to become a guitar player. Bring your own guitar, music will be provided. -
Middle School Honors Band (grades 7-8, invite only)
Middle School Honor Band is a one-day band festival for select students across District 196 middle schools to showcase their musical talents. Students practice with other honor band members throughout the day and perform for friends and family that evening. Students are nominated and selected by their home school band director. The festival will take place on Friday, March 6th from 8:00-4:00pm at Apple Valley High School. Students will be released at 4:00 P.M. go home, change and eat supper and are requested to return for call time at 6:45 P.M. Concert time will be at 7:30pm. Music Electronics and Recording (ages 10+)
Have you ever wondered how music is mixed in a studio? Quench your curiosity, and learn about the electronics used to record vocals and make CDs. Discover how to use a mixing board, edit and auto tune bad notes, and how to use different effects to sweeten sound. Understand studio effects, including looper pedals and synthesizers. Music Together (parents and children birth-5 yrs)
Award-winning music and movement classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers - and the grownups who love them. Experience delightful ways to interact musically with your child, all designed to support his or her overall development. The rich music environment in class, full of opportunities for experimentation and play, will help your child grow into a confident, lifelong music maker while supporting her cognitive, social, emotional, physical and verbal development. Classes are 45 minutes of PURE FUN each week and are mixed-age so siblings can attend together. Receive a CD, a code to download the music, an illustrated songbook and parent education materials. Simply Strings (grades 1-5)
Experience a wonderful world of strings and play with others preparing beautiful group pieces. The quarter culminates with a performance at the South of the River Orchestra concert. Appropriate for students with playing experience through book level one on a stringed instrument.
