Discover how your own attitude contributes to polarization and learn practical strategies to engage in politics without demonizing those who disagree. Through guided exercises, develop the ability to critique viewpoints without stereotyping, practice constructive responses when conversations turn polarizing and engage in communication skills that foster respect across differences. Recognize and counteract your own inner polarizer. Practice speaking up in conversations with like-minded peers. Build skills for more thoughtful and respectful political dialogue.

  • From Frustration to Focus: Helping Kids with ADHD Succeed

    Parenting a child with ADHD often brings unique challenges, leading to feelings of frustration, overwhelm and isolation. Many parents struggle to find effective, drug-free solutions that align with their values and beliefs. This workshop offers a holistic approach to understanding and improving focus, combining brain-based and body-based strategies to enhance nervous system function and regulation. Learn about the different types of attention and their role in learning and behavior and how internal stressors may be affecting your child's brain and focus.

    Join an informative discussion on issues significant to American foreign policy. Each evening features a skilled presenter with expertise in the topic and time allowed for diverse viewpoints, comments and questions. You are encouraged to read, although not required, the Great Decisions briefing book prior to the meeting, available to check out at the Galaxie Library. Free!     Discover the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity, including basic beliefs and practices in the context of both belief systems. Discuss how Muslims view God, Mary and Jesus, as well as verses from the Qur'an that are equivalent to the Ten Commandments. Focus is on the similarities of both faiths and opportunities in pursuing joint Muslim/Christian projects.     Join a lively discussion to learn about Islam and Muslims. Learn about the articles of faith, rituals and practices, and how they affect a Muslim’s daily life. This event will provide you with a safe room to ask any related questions about your Muslim neighbor. We look forward to seeing you in our journey to break through any stereotypes and misconceptions about each other and build a stronger community together.

    Join us for this one of a kind community night to discuss the book, The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt. Discover how the impact smartphones have on our children and learn how to help your student with the ever changing world of technology. Discuss how to end this epidemic with professionals, and other community members. Note: participants do not need to read the book to attend.
  • Starting the Conversation: The Dangers of Non-Prescription Medications

    Substance misuse is a serious public health concern, and prevention begins with education. Learn about the harms of non-prescription medications, opioids and fentanyl. Experts will discuss current trends and health risks, explain how targeted marketing and social media affects youth behavior, and provide tips to reduce the risk. Parents and youth grades 6-12, as well as any adults in the community, including relatives, co-workers, teachers, coaches and friends of young adults welcome. Youth will attend a separate session from parents to learn about the dangers of these drugs.
