You will meet other parents, sharing questions on sleep, schedules and feeding. This fun class will nurture your relationship with your baby.

Many questions arise about how to meet your growing baby’s needs for sleep, feeding and bonding. Parents in this class will track their child’s development weekly over the course of the quarter. Questions regarding growth, feeding, development and new parent experiences are welcome. This class allows you to slow down, enjoy your infant and extend your community of support.
  • Backyard Blast

    One-Time Event for parents with children ages birth through prekindergarten Celebrate summer in our backyard. Are you not sure if you can commit to a weekly class? We will provide the beautiful backyard that includes a playground, grassy hill, nature space, outdoor arts area, weekly teacher-led activities and room to run. We can embrace nature and use the outdoors to elevate our health and well-being. Indoor space available if we have inclement weather. Classes will be held outdoors at the Dakota Valley Learning Center and requires weekly registration to participate. We will be monitoring state and local guidelines related to COVID-19 protocols and adjusting our class models as needed. Currently we are requesting one adult per family attends classes.

You’ll learn how brain state affects how we as parents approach our children’s behavior. Conflict can be an opportunity to teach and learn. This class will explore the two parts of discipline: the health of the relationship and the skill set involved. You’ll walk away with new insights about your child and yourself as well as strategies to try immediately.

Join together in a community of men to learn, share and play while building a support system rooted in fatherhood. This group will focus on quality time with our kids, including gym time. Relaxed discussions about parenting and what it means to be a dad are included. Bring your experiences as a father, or father figure, to share with the group and take home new tips and ideas from both other dads and our parenting educator. Your children will make new friends and learn skills with the guidance of our early childhood teachers. Ages: 1 yr. 11 m - 7 yr. 11 m

In this class you will discuss how children relate to one another as siblings in your ever-changing family systems. By understanding your children’s different temperaments, you will be able to help them live together and get their needs met in a win-win style.

Are you the parent of a child in grades kindergarten through third grade who would like the education and support of an ECFE class? Parenting a school-aged child brings new joys and challenges. You may notice developmental changes in independence, social skills and responsibility. This class will explore shifting family dynamics as you welcome the school experience. Children under kindergarten age can attend with you and enjoy an early childhood experience. You may also attend without children and participate in the parent discussion only from 1:45-3:15 p.m. End time is flexible if you need to pick up children from school.

You will learn skills such as using empathy and logical consequences to teach responsibility, neutralizing arguments and helping kids solve problems. These techniques will help you integrate logic into your parenting decisions. Your children will be able to explore, discover and meet friends in a comfortable classroom environment. A copy of Love and Logic for Early Childhood will be available for class participants to borrow.

We will work to meet the individual needs of each child as the parents meet in a separate room for discussion of topics chosen by the group. They are connecting and communicating, socializing with peers, pushing the boundaries of their skills and learning to manage big feelings. Parenting through this stage of development is delightful and bewildering at the same time. Children play together and explore our early childhood environment with early childhood staff, while parents meet with a parent educator to exchange ideas based on current interests in parenting a preschooler. Friendships are a focus for this age, and they’ll have plenty of time to practice social skills under the guidance of our early childhood staff. Make a date with your two-year-old and learn delightful ways to enjoy time together. You will value a parent group where you can learn about and share this super stage in your child’s development. This class will examine how racial identity develops in children, what role parents play in raising race-conscious children, and the impact of power and privilege in our society. Join us for these courageous conversations and learn specific strategies for practicing anti-racist parenting.

When you are parenting multiples, life is a grand adventure with joys and challenges that can make you feel like you are just surviving day to day. This ECFE experience is designed with your family in mind. You’ll thrive when you have time with other parents to discuss topics related to bringing up multiples with confidence. Your children will explore, discover and meet friends in an environment with experienced teachers to help.
  • Wide-Open Spaces

In this class we will discuss ways children can interact with the natural environment and all the benefits of appreciating the great outdoors. A growing body of research links our mental, physical and spiritual health directly to our association with nature. Come and find out why we are becoming a ‘de-natured’ society. Our backyard has woods to play in, a rock river, grass and hills to run and roll, an outdoor easel and xylophones and a spacious playground. This class will include two local field trips to discover our community’s natural spaces. Please register ALL children, including siblings, who will be attending class.
