  • Dakota Hills Middle Summer Pops (incoming 6th grade)

DHMS Summer POPS is a fun opportunity to learn from the DHMS band teachers, keep up your playing skills in the summer, and connect with other band students in your grade. For the first time we’ll be deliberately opening up to other middle school band students for registration, so if you have a friend in band elsewhere, make sure they know about Summer Pops, too! Once we give the DHMS students the first few weeks to register, the link will be sent to all middle school band students to join, so register early! Join us this summer and learn to play music from popular TV shows and movies, as well as songs you may not have heard before! We’ll play songs like Star Wars, Eye of the Tiger, Creepy Crawlies, and many more! We might even revisit music from 5th grade to show off how far you’ve come since you first started playing. Music will be provided, you just need to bring yourself, your instrument, and maybe a water bottle to stay cool. We’ll be meeting three times over the summer, July 29th, Aug 5th, and Aug 12th, just one hour a week. Going on vacation or have a conflict? No worries! Just come to the weeks you can! DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS June 30. Sign up now, enjoy the summer sun, and we’ll see you at the end of July! Please note if your child is attending DHMS Summer Academy, they will be excused to participate in Summer Pops. 9:00 am – 10:00 am for next year’s 6th grade… get ready to be a middle school band student!

  • Valley Middle School of STEM Instrumental Music Band Lessons (grades 6-8)

The Valley Middle School of STEM Instrumental Music Department is pleased to offer private band lessons this summer. These lessons are an extension of the Independent School District 196 Community Education Department. We offer four weeks of 20-minute individual lessons (preferably one lesson per week, please indicate your day/time preference during the registration process; please choose no preference when possible). Students may sign up for 2, 3 or 4 lessons. Individual lessons are a great way to further growth and development as an individual musician. Instruction is catered to the specific needs and desires of the individual student. Materials from school lessons are typically used for these summer lessons, but may be supplemented by the instructor. These lessons are an ideal way for incoming 6th grade students to meet the VMSS band teachers prior to the start of next school year and a great way for 7th and 8th grade students to continue advancing their skills. We are unable to reschedule missed lessons. Lesson schedules will be emailed by June 13th. *All lessons will take place in person at Apple Valley High School (Valley Middle is closed this summer due to construction).
