Preventing Brain Drain – Math & English
Keep your skills sharp over the summer with Preventing Brain Drain, an enrichment program for ISD 196 students entering grades 5–8. You can join Math, English, or both! Attend flexible in-person sessions for one-two within a 7:00–11:00 a.m. window. Plan for at least 15 hours over the summer, with extra time optional. Incoming 6th graders get a head start at Dakota Hills Middle School. Meet teachers, make friends, and explore the campus. Attendance works around your schedule, and online learning is available if you’re on vacation. A district-issued iPad is required.
Math: Strengthen your skills using IXL (practice targeted skills and track growth), Khan Academy (watch videos, complete practice problems, and assessments aligned with last year’s math), ThatQuiz (timed assessments for mastery), and hands-on learning stations to explore over 50 interactive math activities.
English: Keep your reading, writing and language arts skills sharp using IXL (assess and practice skills based on a diagnostic), complete daily writing prompts with teacher feedback and engage in independent reading from home, DHMS or public libraries.
Combine this program with other summer activities like Band, Eagan Trained or Community Ed enrichment.
