Parenting the Love and Logic Way™

Enrichment - Adult / Thrives -
Adult Winter 2025

It's our belief that changing communities involves changing one family at a time. This curriculum helps increase the supply of young people equipped with the character, compassion and problem-solving skills essential for becoming good neighbors to all. Over the last four decades great pride has been taken in giving specific techniques that work when the "rubber hits the road." Parenting the Love and Logic Way™ represents a "how-to" approach to parenting. Learn:

  • How to avoid un-winnable power-struggles and arguments
  • How to stay calm and empathetic when your kids do incredibly upsetting things
  • How to set enforceable limits
  • How to avoid enabling and begin empowering
  • How to help your kids learn from mistakes rather than repeating them
  • How to raise kids who are family team members rather than demanding dictators
  • And, much more!

Each class involves lively discussion, short video clips, short readings, written exercises and lots of stories that teach. The Love and Logic approach is fun! Have you noticed how much more people learn when they're giggling?

  • Session One: Putting an End to Arguing, Back Talk and Begging
  • Session Two: Teaching Responsibility Without Losing Their Love
  • Session Three: Setting Limits Without Waging War
  • Session Four: Avoiding Power-Struggles
  • Session Five: Guiding Kids to Own and Solve Their Problems
  • Session Six: Teaching Kids to Complete Chores ... Without Reminders and Without Pay

This class will take place online. Registration is by household. All households will receive a workbook that will need to be picked up at the Community Education office. You will receive an email when it is ready.

Chris Peterson

Chris Peterson is a husband, father, and educator. If you ask him what he teaches, his answer is always, "people." Chris earned both a BS in Health and Physical Education and an MS in PE with an emphasis on Adventure Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. During his time there, he had countless opportunities to collaborate with excellent educators from across the state.

In 1999, Chris moved to the West Coast, where he spent two years teaching and coaching young people in the Portland, Oregon area. It was there that he gained valuable experience working with a diverse student population and learned about the factors that draw kids into the gang lifestyle. This experience helped him understand the lasting impact educators can have on their students—a relationship that goes both ways.

Recently, Chris stepped away from his classroom position in Holmen, WI, to pursue an administrative license from Winona State University in Minnesota and spend more time at home raising his two daughters. He has had numerous opportunities to work with parents, students, and educators across the state, leading workshops on refusal skills, classroom management and discipline, and anti-bullying programs. He was fortunate to work with Jim and Charles Fay while completing his independent facilitator training for "Becoming a Love and Logic Parent." Chris and his wife feel blessed to raise their children using these strategies.

Throughout his career, Chris has met thousands of educators while presenting at conferences such as the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), the Wisconsin Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (WAHPERD), Building the Heart of Successful Schools, and various School Counselor Association conferences across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and North Dakota. He has also worked with school districts of all sizes, including Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), Appleton, Howard-Suamico, Las Vegas, De Pere, and smaller districts like Cloquet, Elcho, Merrill, Wazeka- Steuben, and Pulaski. Most recently, he was selected to present at the National Innovative Schools Summit in Atlanta. Chris is passionate about teaching and even more excited about learning as he works toward his vision of influencing the development of the next generation of world class citizens.
