Overcoming Executive Functions in the Classroom

There are a multitude of challenges that impact a child’s education when deficits in executive functions are not addressed. This course will increase awareness of executive functioning and co-occurring mental health conditions, which impacts over 20% of the population. The classroom takes on a positive new energy when best practice strategies are taught and used daily by students, teachers and families. Our presentation incorporates a 4-tiered approach: 1) Importance of teaching executive function language; 2) Identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses, 3) Teach students to advocate for their own needs, and 4) Create a classroom climate that is inclusive for all learners. This course fulfills the mental health requirement for MN Teacher Licensing.
